Mission
My mission is to help non-profit organizations benefit from communication media, using my knowledge, experience and skills in the field.
I offer my services to non-profit organizations working for sustainable human development, in capacities and roles appropriate for individual organizations, with the purpose of mainstreaming communication activities in their regular work.
The importance and influence of communication media cannot be overemphasized in this age of communications. If you do not communicate effectively, you do not exist in the public knowledge, no matter how good your intentions are and how well you deliver. This is especially true for non-profit organizations who have to face stiff competition for attention from policymakers, donors, media and the general public in equal measure.
Most non-profit organizations, including many large ones, currently fail to reap the benefits of communication media due to various reasons, least of them paucity of funds. Often the value of regular and effective communication is underestimated which leads to insufficient allocation of resources and lack of professional expertise. Working with non-profit organizations, I highlight the importance of effective external communication through various media and work to ensure sufficient resources are allocated for communications on a long-term basis.
My belief
I believe in an equal world where all citizens, irrespective of gender, nationality, race, education level, economic and social status and religious and political affiliation, have equal rights to basic amenities, including right to communicate and be informed.
I believe in individual freedom to choose one’s political and religious affiliation and communal right to choose one’s way of life.
I strongly believe that modern information and communication technologies (ICTs) have the power to be a catalyst in accelerating people’s access to and gainful use of information as well as their capacity to voice their opinions, especially in developing parts of the world. I think a free information society – with freedom for everyone to be informed and communicate – is as critical for sustainable development as basic education, health services and livelihood means.
I am also a believer in the Open Source movement. The strength of the movement lies in the active involvement of communities of practice. I believe the Open Source model of development can be answer to many needs of developing communities as it truly embodies the essential democratic values: of the people, by the people and for the people.
My vision
My vision represents a world where all individuals, organizations and communities have the freedom and capacity to communicate effectively and to access and use information relevant to their lives and work.
In my vision, non-profit organizations are well equipped – with appropriate human, financial and technical resources and tools – to conduct external communication activities on a regular basis and are able to benefit from them. They communicate less competitively and more cooperatively, sharing information and communication infrastructure in order to develop a global repository of development knowledge. Information about sustainable development practices and issues are communicated as prominently and effectively as other information. Such information is easily accessible and understandable by everyone.
In my vision, I am established as a reliable communicator for non-profit organizations, helping them to develop the capacity to communicate effectively. I develop long-term communication strategies for individual non-profit organizations, small and big alike, and help them to develop appropriate processes to practically implement their communication plans. I am known for my breadth of knowledge and experience of various communication media, strategic vision to make communication beneficial for non-profit organizations and ability to develop practical, sustainable communication processes for them.
