I have worked for a number of websites, TV news channels and print publications. Here is an overview of my contribution to them (starting with the latest). Check my online CV for a summary of my skills, references and overview of my professional career.
World Health Organization – European regional web site
As Web Manager, I am responsible for the development, maintenance and quality control of WHO’s European regional web site.
World Health Organization – global site
As Web Editor in Chief, I was responsible for the corporate content on the WHO website from December 2006 to July 2009. I was also involved in the redesign and restructure of the site.
World Volunteer Web
Mandated by the UN General Assembly in 2002, the World Volunteer Web exists to promote volunteerism for sustainable development, by providing news, views and resources related to volunteerism all over the world. I led the revamping of the website in 2005, which included a new design and information architecture and implementation of an Open Source content management system (CMS) that was customized in-house. The new site in 2006 won for the UNV web team the Web4Dev award for excellence in web design and management.
UN Volunteers.org
The corporate website of the UN Volunteers programme. I led the revamp of the website, which was relaunched in the first quarter of 2007. The revamp included a new design and information architecture and implementation of an Open Source content management system (CMS) that was customized in-house. Part of the project involved building three UNV country office sites using the same CMS: Egypt, Ghana and Ukraine.
Digital Opportunity Channel
Part of the OneWorld family of websites, the Digital Opportunity Channel promotes use of ICTs for sustainable development. I led the development of the website since its inception in mid-2001, its launch in 2002 and its growth as a leading online source of information on ICT4D.
The Times of India
I supervised the online edition of The Times of India, one of the leading Indian newspapers, especially managing its regular updates every 15 to 30 minutes.
Sahara Samay
As a producer, I was producing live news bulletins for Sahara TV channel, a unit of the Sahara India Pariwar, one of the leading private businesses in India. I assisted reporters in writing stories in specific format, produced stories and finalized the editorial as well as the visual/graphic format of bulletins.
TV International (TVI)
In TVI – the satellite channel of the Business India Group, the first private news channel to be launched in India – I was part of the core group of producers and independently handled eight to ten-hour shifts that put 30-minute live bulletins on air.
The Economic Times
I published the satellite Madras (Chennai) edition of The Economic Times, one of the leading financial dailies in India. This involved news desk and production supervision, and coordination with various centres.
Down To Earth
I worked for this science & environment fortnightly as an editor and a correspondent.
Sunday Mail (English weekly)
Worked on the general and sports desks, besides reporting regularly.
The Times of India
Worked on the business and edit page desks as well as the general desk of the Lucknow edition of the newspaper, besides doing news features regularly.
Sun Times
I was part of the team that launched the first popular English daily of the state of Orissa, brought out by the Sambad Group.
Sucharita
I edited, rewrote and translated articles, read proofs and designed pages of the Orissa’s most popular family monthly.
Eastern Times
Worked in the first English daily published in Orissa when I was an undergraduate student.
